Sci-fi city-builder Aven Colony heading to Xbox One, PS4 and PC

Dark Light

Mothership Entertainment’s sci-fi city-building sim, Aven Colony, has been picked up by Team17.

The UK-based publisher adds Aven Colony to an impressive roster of games that already includes Yooka-Laylee, Overcooked, and The Escapists.

Created by Texas-based indie, Mothership Entertainment, Aven Colony is a science-fiction city-building and management sim that has been in development for four years. The studio includes industry veterans with credits on games including Fable 2, the Metroid Prime series and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The deal also sees Team17’s internal development studio support Mothership in bringing the game to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, in addition to PC, where it’s currently available in beta form on itch.io.

Tasked with building a colony on the remote planet of Aven Prime, the game includes all of the usual city sim elements you’d expect as you build, configure and maintain your habitat. Aven Colony aims to attract both novice and experienced players with a campaign mode and mission objective system that gradually introduces the game’s mechanics. The game features a comprehensive resource management system, environmental challenges and day/night cycle.

Debbie Bestwick, MBE, CEO of Team17, said:

“The talented team at Mothership Entertainment have been incredibly focused on delivering a solid, fun and unique city-building experience with Aven Colony. As we continue our global expansion, we’ve spent a lot of time looking for the right partners and they’re definitely the right fit so we’re delighted that they are the second US team to join Team17’s games label.”

Paul Tozour, founder of Mothership Entertainment, added:

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Team17 and bring Aven Colony to PS4 and Xbox One. Team17 shares our values and our passion for serving the customer. The itch.io beta has helped our tiny 4-person team engage with the community and grow the game significantly as we build toward some big new features we plan to unveil in the coming months. The Team17 partnership will help us grow that community even further and allow us to serve console customers in a way that we could never have done alone.”

The Aven Colony beta is currently available at itch.io. The full game will launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in Q2 2017.
