Dark Light

Bethesda’s E3 press conference already feels like part of the E3 establishment, despite only being in its second year.

The rumour of The Evil Within 2 turned out to be false but apart from that it was a very solid show. Here’s our round-up of each announcement as it happened.

Bethesda E3 2016 press conference report

19:52 – Show’s over.

And the Bethesda Showcase concludes with the official Dishonored 2 E3 gameplay trailer and news of a collector edition that included Corvo’s mask.

Dishonored 2 pre-orders will also receive Dishonored: Definitive Edition. Now that’s another nice treat from Bethesda.

19:52 – Dishonored 2 gameplay.

Creative director Harvey Smith reveals Dishonored 2 gameplay footage. It’s certainly a looker, even better in motion than recent screens suggested. The game has first class design built using the Void Engine.

Dishonored 2 is set fifteen years after the first game. Emily Kaldwin now rules the empire.

The long gameplay demo shows off the Dust district location plus some new powers. All in all it looks a treat, especially the time travel mechanic.

Dishonored 2 will be released on 11th November.

19:49 – Bethesda VR games revealed.

First to be announced is a VR version of Doom but the biggest cheers goes to a VR edition of Fallout 4. It will be released on HTC Vive in 2017. There’s a hint it will be an adapted version of the game.

19:42 – The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online launches in Japan on 23rd June.

No cheers.

The Dark Brotherhood DLC announcement garners a few more cheers. It will features Cyrodiil’s gold coast location, which is nice.

One Tamriel is announced too, removes levels and opens up the entire world to everyone.

It’s not Prey 2, just Prey. Coming in 2017 with more to revealed at QuakeCon.

19:33 – Skyrim Special Edition revealed.

We knew it was coming. And lovely it looks too. God rays, improved snow and lovely shaders among the improvements.

19:20 – Here’s Id’s Tim Willits.

He looks pretty choked to be announcing Quake Champions. He promises the game will be fast, running at 120Hz with unlocked frame rates. Cue whoops from frame rate fetishists. Good news, though.

More will be revealed at QuakeCon in August.

19:18 – So we begin, with Quake.

Very dark trailer as Bethesda looks to repeat its Doom magic act by reinventing a ‘90s classic for modern audiences. It’s called Quake Champions.

19:16 – Fewer rats in Dishonored 2, confirmed.

We’ll take that as official. Adam Sessler says so. Hurrah.

[divider style=”dashed” align=”center” color=”gray” opacity=”1.00″ width=”” pull=”” padding_top=”10px” padding_bottom=”10px”]

19:07 – Quick, phone helpdesk.

Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb are keeping us all warm while someone tries to work out how to connect a laptop to the projector.

18:35 – Twenty-five minutes to go

Or 1500 seconds, if that’s how you like to think about things.
