Surprise! Fallout, Skyrim, and Doom come to the Switch’s Pinball FX3

Dark Light

The Bethesda Pinball pack brings Fallout, Skyrim, and Doom to Zen Studios’ Pinball FX3 on Nintendo Switch.

Once upon a time, licensed pinball DLC was the best a Nintendo fan could hope for when it came to seeing some AAA franchises make an appearance on their console of choice.

It’s a testament to the humble Switch’s technical chops – and Bethesda’s porting prowess – that both Doom and Skyrim are already available in full on the Switch, and Wolfenstein II is on its way. (And we wouldn’t bet against at least one Fallout title being announced for the Switch at E3.)

That makes today’s release of Bethesda Pinball a cherry on the cake, rather than a serving of sloppy seconds. The DLC add-on is now available for Pinball FX3, and features three tables based on the studio’s blockbuster franchises.

It’s worth bearing in mind, however, that Pinball FX3 on Switch is still something of a work-in-progress. Developer Zen Studios recently reversed their controversial decision not to patch the game to improve its performance, but that patch is not due until this summer.

In a blog post last month, Zen Studios’ Mel Kirk said:

“The community has spoken, and as we pride ourselves in doing at Zen Studios, we are listening. Zen is happy to confirm that we will in fact release a patch to bring all Pinball FX3 content to 60 FPS in handheld mode on Nintendo Switch this summer. The time between now and then will be spent achieving 60 FPS in handheld mode and 1080p Full HD in docked mode for all 30+ tables in the library, plus testing and then publishing submissions to Nintendo.”

The base Pinball FX3 game is free to download, the Bethesda Pinball pack is priced at $10.99/£9.89.
