Team17 releases the first footage of sandbox prison-escape game, The Escapists 2, at TwitchCon.

The game is the sequel to last year’s 1.8 million-selling hit, The Escapists, and will come to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Steam in 2017.

The new trailer reveals a crop of new features and changes from developers Mouldy Toof, including a vibrant new look, new crafting options, a revamped combat system and improved character customisation options.

The headline addition is a drop in/drop out multiplayer mode that offers both split screen and online play for up to four players in both co-op and versus modes. And, as you might expect, the game will also feature some brand new escape methods. One example is the use of tied together knotted sheets to climb down from the high windows in the game’s new multi-level prisons.

Chris Davis, founder, Mouldy Toof Studios, said:

“I’m thrilled to be working with my friends at Team17 again to bring this new chapter of The Escapists to life. The Escapists 2 takes everything the fans loved from the first game and adds in so many new additions and features on top. I can’t wait to see what the fans think!”

The Escapists 2 will enter society sometime in 2017 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
