Naughty Dog classics Jak 2, 3, and Jak X Combat Racing are releasing on PS4 next week as part of the PS2 Classics collection.

The trailer, released today, showcases each of the three games in Naughty Dog’s pre-Uncharted, pre-The Last of Us series: Jak and Daxter.

The bundle is available from next week and will support trophies along with the usual 1080p up-render job – along with Remote Play, Shareplay, and Activity Feeds. The first game, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy has been available on PS4 for some time.

These versions are separate from the HD trilogy that came out in 2012 for the PS3; in fact, the PS4 versions will look a little better.

The real treat among the bunch will be Jak X Combat Racing; not that the other games aren’t all fantastic in their own right, but Naughty Dog’s spin-off racing game hasn’t been available on any platform other than the PS2 since 2005.

It’s good news for fans of the series, and it’s also a bit of a boon for PS4: with Xbox offering a widening library of backwards compatible games, it makes sense for Sony to leverage its fantastic back catalogue as much as possible – particularly given that the PS2 classics range has been in need of a boost.

  1. Why do writers always have to slam a console at the end of their articles? It’s cheapens their writing and leaves the targeted reader for the article in a sour mood after reading it.
