The latest Mass Effect Andromeda trailers introduce new friends and foes

Dark Light

The new Mass Effect Andromeda cinematic trailer reveals the game’s big bad, Kett Archon.

As the release of the fourth Mass Effect game approaches we are beginning to get more and more treats from EA’s hype dispenser. Today sees the release of two new trailers, the first of which debuts Mass Effect: Andromeda’s new villain, Kett Archon. He’s a delightful chap who offers the game’s protagonists the simple choice to “surrender or burn.”

The rest of the trailer teases some beautiful looking new planets, some awkward fumbling and some spectacular Krogan smack-downs.

It all looks super nice but – for the last time, we promise – we’ll just say how much we miss the first game’s eerie and uneasy tone. It evoked the perils of an unknown universe much more effectively than the thumping, gung-ho exploits introduced in Mass Effect 3, and seen again in Mass Effect Andromeda’s promotional material.

Thummmmmmm! Thummmmmmm! Hans Zimmer has a lot to answer for.

Today’s second trailer is part of the ongoing Mass Effect Andromeda Pathfinder marketing campaign. The video introduces the game’s Pathfinder team, which includes lead character Ryder (in both Sarah and Scott varieties), crisis responder Liam Kosta, ops specialist Cora Harper, and the ship’s AI, SAM.

Mass Effect Andromeda will be released on Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4 on March 21 in North America, and March 23 in Europe.
