Square Enix’s Tomoya Asano says the publisher has an entire division focused on developing Nintendo Switch games.

One of the highlights of the Nintendo Switch’s coming out party in early 2017 was the reveal of Octopath Traveler, a new JRPG from Square Enix. An impressive demo followed last summer, and the full game is due for worldwide release on July 13, 2018.

Being interviewed for a feature in the July issue of Game Informer, Tomoya Asano, division executive at Square Enix, says that the studio has more Nintendo Switch titles in development. And in fact, an entire division was recently set up to support the console.

“Square Enix has decided that it wants to focus on original titles for the Switch. If Octopath Traveler does well and this is something that appeals to fans, we want to focus on Switch. Please pick up the Switch if you want to play games like Octopath Traveler.

Asano goes on to add:

“There are several other titles that we’re currently working on for Switch. If you could just wait a bit longer, we’ll work with Nintendo and announce them in the future.”

With E3 around the corner, there’s every chance that we could get an announcement as soon as next week. The long-rumoured Switch port of Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is also one possibility.
