Dark Light

It’s a time of great change among Japan’s most ‘unique’ video game creators.

Hideo Kojima has left Konami and founded Kojima Productions. Suda51 hasn’t actually directed a Grasshopper game since 2008’s No More Heroes. Hideki Kamiya’s open world RPG, Scalebound, has been canned by Microsoft. And now, Hidetaka ‘Swery’ Suehiro – creator of Deadly Premonition, among others – has announced the formation of a new studio, White Owls.

What can we expect from Swery and White Owls? More, of the same, we reckon, based on the studio’s mission statement on their new website:

Do You Need More Weird Content?
White Owls is prepared to give you the unique content that you’re looking for, which you won’t be able to find anywhere else.

And according to their site, their ‘PR Rep’ is a stuffed monkey called Sharapova, who apparently had the following to contribute to the discussion:

Ooh ooh ahh ahh! Ooh ooh ah!
Oooooh… Ahh! Uki-uki! Ooh ahh! Uki-ki-ki!

Right. So, more weird games from a very weird man (in his weird new studio) then.
