Deathloop, the next game from Dishonored developer Arkane, has been delayed out of 2020.

Deathloop, first revealed at E3 2019, is a stylish action game and mysterious single-player multiplayer hybrid. Developer Arkane Lyon has been busy in recent years, pushing out Dishonored 2 and Dishonored: Death of the Outsider in 2016 and 2017, and assisting Machinegames on the development of last year’s Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

So, it isn’t all that surprising that the team needs a little extra time to finish Deathloop. You can only sprint for so long. It is a little surprising, though, how long Arkane delayed Deathloop. Originally slated for a 2020 release, the PC and PS5 game will now launch in Q2 2021.

Deathloop, from Dishonored developer, Arkane, delayed to 2021

Arkane delays Deathloop

“Our ambition for DEATHLOOP is to deliver a signature Arkane game that takes you to never-before-seen places in a stylish new world,” reads a statement shared to Arkane’s Twitter.

“At the same time, the health and safety of everyone at Arkane Lyon remains our top priority. As we’ve adjusted to work-from-home, we found that delivering this new and exciting experience, at the polish and quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal. This extra time will allow our team to bring DEATHLOOP’s world to life with as much character and fun as you’ve come to expect from our team.”

It’s disappointing to see another big 2020 release slip into next year. Especially one from a studio as talented as Arkane. But, after Halo Infinite and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 got delayed last week, it isn’t surprising to see Arkane make the decision to take some extra time.

If you haven’t checked Deathloop out yet, you really should. Players assume the role of Colt, an assassin attempting to break a time loop and escape the island of Blackreef. To do this Colt needs to take out eight targets. All the while, rival assassin, Julianna (who can be controlled by another player), is hellbent on stopping you. Oh, and the rest of the island’s inhabitants, too. It looks stylish and cool as hell. And, notably, incorporates some of the ideas Arkane was toying with on their canceled game, The Crossing.

And, with Arkane’s pedigree, I’m happy to wait.
