The Dishonored 2 New Game Plus mode is hardly the most expansive and groundbreaking DLC announcement ever, but it’s welcome nonetheless.
New Game + or New Game Plus – or whatever you want to call it; you say po-tay-to, I say po-tah-to – is usually seen as a relatively cheap and non-labour intensive way for developers to squeeze a bit more life out of their release. You know the drill. You finish the game, then get to go through it again on slightly modified difficulty, compensated by the fact you’re allowed to keep all your stats and upgrades when you ended the last playthrough.
Bethesda have today announced that the first DLC for Dishonored 2 will be a New Game Plus mode. Yeah, exactly – it hardly seems worth announcing, does it?
What does the Dishonored 2 New Game Plus mode entail, then? Well, you’ll of course get to replay the game with all of your learned skills and abilities from your first playthrough – so far, so standard – but you’ll also be able to play as either character, and combine their abilities for a different way to play the game. Also, presumably, a far easier way to play the game.
The Dishonored 2 New Game Plus mode will launch on all platforms on December 19, 2016. It will be quickly followed by a second free update, expected in January, which will include a mission select option and some alternative difficulty settings.
Can’t help but feeling like all of these things just fell off the timeline during the push for release, and now we’re getting them thrown at us as “free DLC” to buy a little more time to complete the real downloadable content. Still, at least it’s free.
