The third major update for Frontier’s Elite: Dangerous is now available.
The Powerplay update is the largest released so far. It includes three new ships, a host of gameplay tweaks and a new strategic layer.
It also introduces a new strategic layer in which players can pledge allegiance to one of a number of galactic powers and join the battle for interstellar conquest and control. Players can then guide their chosen faction’s strategy and take on special objectives to advance their shared cause.
You can also earn perks, reputation bonuses and unique equipment for your allegiance as you defend territory and conquer human space.
Other additions include a new illustrated GalNet newsfeed that’s accessible in the ship UI, some updates to the bounty system and an improved user interface.
Here’s a trailer that says all that, accompanied by a bombastic soundtrack. Set phasers for fun. Or something.
Powerplay is available now for PC and Mac. Elite: Dangerous is coming to Xbox One later this year. There’s still no word of a ZX Spectrum edition.
