Don’t worry if you didn’t get the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy edition – it’s still great.
We’re all very jealous of those folk who managed to get a Fallout 4 Pip-Boy edition. They were on sale and sold out almost immediately, then they came back on sale for a brief time and it was the same story… in short, they’re basically the one and only pre-order that’s ever been worth it.
Why? Because you get a full-size, arm-mountable plastic Pip-Boy, but it’s not just a toy or display piece – you can slide your smartphone into the adjustable-sized housing, and control your Fallout 4 menu experience in real-time from on your arm, just like in the game.
And that Pip-Boy experience is powered by the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy App, available right now for Android and iOS platforms – sorry WinPho users – and means you can still enjoy the full Pip-Boy experience even without the plastic housing. I’m totally not just going to duct-tape my phone to my arm. Honest.
There’s not much to see and do with the Pip-Boy App just yet until your game experience begins, other than play the in-built Missile Command-style mini-game, but it’s a chance to get it installed in advance and get familiar with the new touch-screen navigation.
Only Vault 111 is marked on the map so far, but what else can your Pip-Boy App do? Here’s the press release from Bethesda:
PIP-BOY APP: CREATING AN ELECTRONIC BOND!
This app lets your portable device interact with Fallout 4 on your Xbox One, PlayStation 4 or PC. Away from your game system? No problem! Pip-Boy will remember your status and allow you to access your data while on the go.

MINI GAME MANIA!
