I like science fiction. I like horror. Something tells me that upcoming sci-fi horror SOMA is going to scare me to death, though.
Anybody who’s read Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World will tell you that hallucinogenic drug soma can lead to some bad experiences. Presumably this is what happens if you take too much:
Frictional Games – they of Amnesia and Penumbra – look to have nailed it with upcoming sci-fi horror SOMA. There’s a ten-minute gameplay trailer doing the rounds too, which looks brilliant and whole-body-tremblingly terrifying, but I won’t post it here because it’s probably a bit spoilery.
I like science fiction. I like horror. I like robots. I like puzzles. I like non-combative solutions. I like tumultuous plots and big old twists. I therefore assume I am going to like SOMA, a game that appears as though Philip K Dick played through System Shock, Half-Life and BioShock, then said to himself “I can top that.”
But then again, it does look genuinely horrific. Perhaps it’s going to be a love/hate relationship with SOMA when it’s released on September 22 2015. Can’t wait to see what they have for us at E3 though…
