Harmonix have announced that Rock Band 4 will receive a synchronous online multiplayer mode.

The announcement – which came via the PlayStation Blog – confirms that the game’s most requested feature will arrive later this year. There are no details about which gameplay modes will be supported, other than a modified version of Quickplay. Also promised are further back-end enhancements to accommodate players with different DLC libraries.

It’s a positive piece of news for both the Rock Band community and for Harmonix, who last month failed to achieve their $1.5 million goal on Fig to bring Rock Band 4 to PC.

Harmonix have teased that big announcements will be coming at this year’s E3.

It has to be Led Zeppelin, surely?
