Ready for a bit of System Shock meets Half-Life on PC? You’ll need to know the Prey system requirements.

Prey launches in all regions in a couple of days. As per Bethesda’s new review policy, the press won’t be getting copies of the game in advance to render their verdict. To try and keep the public on-side – and hopefully prove to people they haven’t been holding out because the game is garbage – they’re made a demo available on PS4 and Xbox One.

If you’re wanting to play on PC, there’s no demo available unfortunately (though you can probably assume that it will be pretty similar across all platforms).

The only advance intel we can therefore give PC players on the game, then, are the Prey system requirements.

Minimum Prey system requirements

  • OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit versions)
  • Processor: Intel i5-2400, AMD FX-8320
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GTX 660 2GB, AMD Radeon 7850 2GB
  • Storage: 20 GB available space

Recommended Prey system requirements

  • OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64-bit versions)
  • Processor: Intel i7-2600K, AMD FX-8350
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: GTX 970 4GB, AMD R9 290 4GB
  • Storage: 20 GB available space

Prey storage requirements – PS4

  • Initial install: Approx 39GB
  • Day one patch: Approx 3GB
  • Total: Approx 42 GB

Prey storage requirements – Xbox One

  • Initial install: Approx 35GB
  • Day one patch: Approx 3GB
  • Total: Approx 38GB

Quite why it’s so much smaller on PC than console is anyone’s guess, but the system requirements are at least pretty reasonable. Speaking of downloads, Prey pre-loads are already open on all platforms, but the unlock times are a little unusual.

On PS4 and Xbox One, the game unlocks at midnight on the morning of May 5, 2017, in whichever territory you’re playing in. The PC version takes the more standard unlock strategy of a fixed time in one territory; specifically that’s midnight EDT – 9PM PDT, 5AM GMT – on May 5, 2017.
