The next PUBG gun is based on the Ruger Mini-14 assault rifle, and is going into normal loot rotation, folks.

Do you ever look at PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and think, damn, this game doesn’t have enough guns? No, me neither, but variety is the spice of life and all that.

What’s more important, when they do add more guns to PUBG, is that they don’t put it in the care package crate drops. I have collected the contents of a care package precisely once, when it literally dropped ten feet from the balcony I was standing on, and even then, I still had to murder two people – who inexplicably beat me to it – and take the storied M24 rifle from their cold, lifeless fingers.

Most of my interaction with PUBG care packages is either staying away from them entirely, or if they land too close to avoid, hiding in the bushes near them, and killing people who come to collect. I know. I’m a dick, but I’m an efficient dick.

So I am pleased to announce that the new Mini-14 rifle – a lightweight, select fire, semi-automatic assault rifle that uses 5.56mm ammo – is going into the regular weapon rotation. It means me, and all of the other PUBG crate cowards, will get a chance to play with them.

Bluehole may have abandoned their original, rigid monthly update schedule (to allow more time for QA and testing) but we’re expecting the next major update in the next week or so. It should also spend at least two days on the test servers.

In addition to the Mini-14 rifle, the next PUBG update will also include a foggy weather variant, and leaderboards for the first-person perspective mode. But you know, people like guns, so that’s the headline item.

No vaulting yet, though.
