Rockstar Games have announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 will now be released in spring 2018.

No one likes to see a game delayed, especially one as anticipated as Red Dead Redemption 2. That said, no one likes to see an ambitious game have corners cut or its vision compromised, either. As far as we’re concerned Rockstar can take as much time as they want, if it helps the game become the masterpiece we’re hoping for.

In today’s blog post Rockstar explain the reasons for the move:

“This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans.

We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready.”

Rockstar have sweetened the pill with the publication of some exquisite new screenshots.

So although the delay is disappointing, there will be plenty of other open-world games to enjoy this fall, with Assassin’s Creed Origins, Far Cry 5, and Crackdown 3 all tipped to arrive before the end of the year.

Rockstar say that more news on Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released this summer. In the meantime, we’ll just take a another look at those screenshots, and another, and another…
