WayForward’s Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is now complete and awaiting certification.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero raised $776,084 on KickStarter when its campaign launched back in 2013. The game had an original estimated release date of October 2014, which has, of course, long since passed.

Despite the delay, WayForward’s approach has been a text-book example of how to manage a Kickstarter campaign. Regular comms, feature updates, art packs and plenty of fan involvement has reassured the backer community that development was always progressing.

In an update to the game’s backers WayForward said:

“What an incredible experience this has been! As you know, this was a very long development cycle, and we’re grateful for your support and patience. This project was always about working together to create a product that was shaped by fans, for fans, and now that work is complete! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!”

We spoke to Matt Bozon, creative director of the Shantae series, way back in September 2013 about his hopes for the game and the challenges of funding it through KickStarter.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has now been submitted to Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo and WayForward say they are aiming for a unified global release date.

The game is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Steam, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. What, no Speak & Spell?
