Dark Light

Get ready to save big and shop in a bit of a random, Supermarket Sweep fashion – it’s the massive Square Enix Anniversary Sale.

Square Enix knows a thing or two about limited time events. You only have to look at Final Fantasy XV‘s Moogle Chocobo carnival or Assassin’s Creed festival – or the last eight years of Final Fantasy XIV generally – to see that.

Now they’re having an Anniversary Sale over on the Square Enix store. Anniversary of what, exactly? It’s unclear. But the salient detail is this: you can save up to 80% on physical and digital versions of games, and merchandise.

First up, are the physical discounts. You won’t find any brand new Square Enix games – like Dissidia Final Fantasy NT or the Secret of Mana remake – but if you’re looking to stock up your back catalogue, there’s plenty to choose from.

You can save 50% on Final Fantasy XV, the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, and Dragon Quest Builders. If you go back a little further, and if they’re still in stock, you can save whopping 80% on Just Cause 3, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and 2014’s Thief.

And if you’re really prepared to go back in time, save 80% on stone cold Square Enix classics like Final Fantasy IX and X, the first few Kingdom Hearts games, and Chrono Cross. Yes, those are all PS1 and PS2 games, friends. What a time to be alive.

On the digital front, there’s a swathe of PC games – in both Steam and direct key flavours – including 75% off Daikatana, Deus Ex old and new, and Deathtrap Dungeon. There’s also far more Just Cause 2 DLC cluttering up the sale page than there has any right to be.

From the merch stand, there’s up to 30% off varying ranges of quality merchandise, from the (still very expensive even with 25% off) play arts action figures, to 30% off the absolutely essential hooded Moogle/Chocobo blankets. And if quality’s not your concern, you can take 70% off the ticket price of a 2017 Final Fantasy XIV calendar. Yes, that is already out of date.

Finally – a little inexplicably – there’s also a Deep Silver sale on the Square Enix store, including 50% off F1 2017 and 68% off Agents of Mayhem. Perhaps they’re commemorating the sale of Koch Media, Deep Silver’s parent company, to THQ Nordic.

The Square Enix Anniversary Sale runs from today (February 14th, happy Valentine’s day) until February 20th, 2018. Strike while the iron is hot; the physical editions are limited in quantity, and some are already out of stock.
