Edmonton-based Beamdog are best known for the modern, enhanced editions of Black Isle Studios' classic computer role-playing games, including Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II and Icewind Dale. Now they're also releasing soundtracks. The Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition soundtrack includes all of the original tracks from Baldur's Gate II and its expansion, Throne of Bhaal, composed by Jeremy Soule, Inon Zur, and Howard Drossin. If that wasn't enough, there's also an additional 15 new tracks by Sam Hulick, composed for the enhanced edition of the game, making 81 tracks in all. This also includes 34 previously unreleased tracks. The Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition at 51 tracks is less expansive, and other than ten bonus tracks – that clearly weren't worth being labelled anything other than 'Bonus Track' ten times over – is basically the same as the original Icewind Dale soundtrack composed by Jeremy Soule. The Icewind Dale soundtrack is still good, admittedly, but given they're both priced at £6.99 – I daren't project what that is in Euro or US dollars right now, don't ask – the Baldur's Gate II soundtrack is arguably the better deal.
