Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World is confirmed for release on 3 February 2017. Yoshi’s Woolly World is one of a number of Wii U games that probably didn’t get the attention it deserved on its original release. The reasons are obvious, of course, so it’s nice to see Nintendo give the game a second chance and bring it to the 3DS early next year. Whereas the recent port of Super Mario Maker saw the removal of several key features, Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World sees a number of additions, making the game an enticing prospect, even for players who played and enjoyed the Wii U version. Firstly, there’s the starring role for Poochy and his accompanying Amiibo. By scanning a Yarn Poochy amiibo at any point during the game he will appear and accompany Yoshi, helping out where needed. The Poochy figurine also unlocks exclusive Time Attack missions and special Poochy patterns. Support is also included for the recent Animal Crossing and Splatoon amiibo collections which also unlock new character-based designs. Quite how the Wii U's glorious graphics will translate to the lower resolution screen of the 3DS is anyone's guess. It’s certain to look better than it does in these press shots, and if the likes of Super Mario Maker and Super Smash Bros for 3DS are anything to go by, it should just about retain its yarny charm. Also included with the game are 30 stop-motion animations created by the Japanese animation studio, Dwarf. The shorts feature Yoshis and Poochy getting up to all kinds of mischief and one can be unlocked each day for 30 days. Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World will be available as a stand-alone game or in a bundle with the new Yarn Poochy amiibo. Pre-order Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World on Amazon.
