Deltarune Chapter 2 is almost upon us. We don't need to tell you to "please be excited" for this one. Deltarune Chapter 1 was released on October 31, 2018. That's almost exactly three years after Undertale, the game it's sort of a sequel to (if you squint a bit) was released, on September 15, 2015. Now, almost exactly three years later, Deltarune Chapter 2 has a release date: September 17, 2021. Toby Fox is nothing but punctual. He's like a Swiss train. We should back up a little. Undertale, the off-kilter JRPG with bullet-hell combat, is beloved, as you well know. But did you know that Deltarune – which is an anagram of Undertale – originated first? Sort of, anyway. Fox had the original idea for Deltarune in 2011 and development began in 2012, but it was remixed into Undertale for that successful Kickstarter campaign in June 2013. The rest, as they say, is history. Undertale came out, blew people away, won bags of awards, and was hailed an instant classic. But Fox wouldn't let the idea for the original Deltarune go, deciding to release the sort-of sequel in an episodic format. So. Deltarune Chapter 1 launched in 2018. Deltarune Chapter 2 launches in a couple of weeks. https://twitter.com/tobyfox/status/1438331420154368003?s20 As for the rest of the story? It's coming. "There are planned to be more chapters than Chapter 2," reads a FAQ on the Deltarune website. "However, we've only completed Chapter 2 so far, so please be patient." Based on a simple geometric progression, we might expect to see Deltarune Chapter 3 in autumn 2024, Chapter 4 in autumn 2027, and so on. Honestly, Toby, take your time. It's worth the wait.
