Electronic Arts and Respawn announce a free multiplayer trial for Titanfall 2.

Everyone loves Titanfall 2 except consumers, it seems. Respawn’s mech FPS sequel was released to near universal acclaim last month but for whatever reason the positive critical response failed to carry over into sales. The game’s struggles are probably a combination of being sandwiched between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and being a sequel to a game that PlayStation 4 owners had no historical affinity for.

Today’s announcement is very much from the ‘try before you buy’ school of marketing but is no less welcome. Titanfall 2‘s multiplayer modes and mechanics have been right lauded and are surely worthy of more exposure.

The trial will begin for EA Access and Origin Access members on Wednesday 30th November. It then rolls out to general players on 2nd December on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Origin for PC platforms.  If the trial wins you over and leads to a purchase of the full game you can rest easy, all multiplayer progress will be transferred.

EA have also announced that all of Titanfall 2‘s post-launch maps, modes, and weapons will now be free for all players. The first release is a remastered version of the Angel City map from the original Titanfall. Also included in this release is the Wingman Elite Pistol, six new Titan kits, and a brand new Pilot execution. Those who pre-ordered Titanfall 2 prior to the game’s release can access the map and items from tomorrow. The rest of us can pick it up from 3rd December, 2016.

The free multiplayer trial will run through to the end of this weekend.
