The long-awaited, much-anticipated, desperately-wanted follow up to Beyond Good & Evil is actually happening.
For a game that appears to have been incubating for such a long time – remember that wonderful teaser trailer back in 2008? – its official announcement is a mere two sentences long.
The news, which was posted on the Ubisoft Montpellier Studio Facebook page, simply says:
“If you’ve been waiting for news about BG&E… well, here you go! We are delighted to confirm that Michel Ancel is currently working with the Ubisoft Montpellier Studio on a new Beyond Good & Evil game.”
Ancel has been teasing the game for a few weeks now with Instagram posts indicating its likely existence. A clutch of rumours have also been circulating recently that suggest the game will be coming to Nintendo’s forthcoming NX console.
As yet there’s no word on the game’s official title, its release date, or whether it’s even a sequel. This all means we’re unlikely to be playing it anytime soon.
Until then the first game is still well worth experiencing. An HD version of Beyond Good & Evil was published on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2011 and if you are an Xbox One owner you can still enjoy its pleasures via the dark arts of backwards compatibility. The game will also be available to play for free, via the Ubisoft Club, for 30 days from 12 October.
