Rocket League creators Psyonix, and WWE, reveal details of wide-ranging sponsorship deal.

San Diego-based game developer Psyonix, and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), have announced a new partnership that will give popular sports game Rocket League exposure across WWE’s TV, streaming, digital, and social platforms.

The first fruits of the new agreement will see Rocket League become the presenting partner of two upcoming pay-per-view events. The first is this Sunday’s Backlash, which will be followed by Great Balls of Fire on Sunday July 9, 2017.

Rocket League will also be promoted during the WWE’s big summer event, SummerSlam, as well as on the regular Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live shows. So, lots of ads, banners, and logos, basically.

John Brody, executive vice president at WWE, said in a press statement:

“The integrated partnership with Psyonix will provide Rocket League with an opportunity to utilize WWE’s global platforms and reach our passionate fan base, many of whom are avid gamers. We look forward to working with Rocket League as we collectively build customized one-stop shopping programs to reach their consumers.”

Jeremy Dunham, vice president of publishing at Psyonix, added:

“As WWE fans ourselves, we are well aware of WWE’s strong capabilities as a strategic marketing partner. WWE has proven time and again that they know how to execute fantastic integrated programming, and with an audience that has similar interests to our own, it was only natural that we team up to see what we could do together.”

So, lots of ads, banners, and logos, basically.

We’re rolling our eyes a little bit, but truthfully, we have to tip our hat to Psyonix. We’re sure we weren’t the only ones who were dubious about Rocket League‘s chances of success when it launched as a free PlayStation Plus game in July 2015. 31 million players later, the game is an absolute phenomenon, and appears to be going from strength to strength.

The agreement will also see Rocket League playable at upcoming WWE live events, and featured on WWE’s YouTube gaming channel, UpUpDownDown.
