TV shows about video games are usually terrible. GamesMaster carries all sorts of nostalgic fuzziness, Charlie Brooker’s GamesWipe is splendid, and Video Gaiden is a thing if you’re in Scotland, but other than that? Generally quite dreadful.
Go 8-Bit hopes to change all that. For starters, it’s based on an already-successful live show format by Steve McNeil and Sam Pamphilon, which is ostensibly based on the super-successful TV panel show format, where they (as team captains) pit comedians and celebrities against each other in video game-based challenges.
Also in its favour, the Go 8-Bit TV show is going to hosted by one of the legends of British comedy panel shows, Dara O’Briain, who you may not know is a bit of a video game aficionado. Here’s the man himself doing a bit on conveniently placed waist-high cover and being shit at Metal Gear Solid:

*Not really.
