Gotham Knights cancelled on last-gen consoles in order “provide players with the best possible gameplay experience”.

Gotham Knights, the post-Arkham Batman game that doesn’t even feature Batman, is in development by WB Games Montreal. Originally slated for a 2021 release, it’s now on the WBIE schedule for October 2022.

Assuming no further delays, of course.

And one thing that might just help prevent further delays to Gotham Knights is a reduction in the number of platforms being targeted.

When the game was announced, WBIE was planning to release Gotham Knights on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. But alongside its latest gameplay trailer – featuring action with Nightwing and Red Hood – the publisher confirmed the cancellation of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

In a press release accompanying the latest Gotham Knights gameplay trailer, WBIE said, “to provide players with the best possible gameplay experience, the game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and will not be available for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles”.

(Though you could argue that doesn’t give PlayStation 4 or Xbox One owners the “best possible gameplay experience”.)
