Dark Light

It’s the Master Chief’s face! It’s the Master Chief’s face!

We all thought this day would never come, but in the trailer for the new animated series Halo: The Fall of Reach – to be released with Halo 5: Guardians – we finally get a look at Master Chief’s face.

Yes, that’s right, Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 – the faceless hero of the Halo series – now has a face, and you can see it in the trailer for Halo: The Fall of Reach:

Does seeing the Master Chief’s face change much? Not really.

It’s certainly a young Master Chief’s face we see in the trailer, from John being ‘conscripted’ into the Spartan program by Halsey age 6 and the painful Spartan-II Augmentation process at 14, through to John-117 first donning the legendary MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armour soon after. It’s also an animated spin-off face, far less realistic than what we see in the modern Halo titles, which probably means it carries less weight for some fans.

So if we do ever see Master Chief’s face in the Halo series proper – but not in Halo 5: Guardians – it’s going to be a lot older, significantly more battle-worn, and a lot more realistic than what we’ve seen in the trailer above.

But still, it’s the Master Chief’s face! That’s pretty groundbreaking in its own way.

Halo 5: Guardians launches on October 27, 2015. Pre-order it now from Amazon.
