Jonathan Blow’s The Witness is free to download and keep on PC right now

Dark Light

The Witness is free on PC right now. You should probably get on that.

The Witness was Dan’s game of the year, way back in 2016. He said that it is “one of the most infuriating, annoying and frustrating games I have ever had the misfortune to play. It’s unforgiving, obtuse and cruel. And it makes me feel really stupid.”

But then in the next paragraph, he also said: “The Witness is also one of the most challenging, rewarding and satisfying games I have ever had the good fortune to play. It’s complex, enigmatic and enlightening. And it makes me feel really smart.”

So that clears that up.

If you’re yet to play Jonathan Blow’s epic first-person environmental puzzler – and really, there can’t be that many of you left – then we have a treat for you: The Witness is free to download and keep on PC, for the next couple of weeks.

The only catch is that you’ll need to get it from the Epic Store, which for some reason, gets certain subsets of PC players very upset. But you can’t argue with that price tag. Well, you can, but it’s a bit weird if you do.
