Dark Light

Won’t somebody please think of the children!?

We’re pretty partial to This War of Mine here at Thumbsticks. We really appreciated its human-led narrative approach to a wartime title, and you can’t fault them for their support of critically important charity War Child. It’s nice to have an intelligent, grown-up game that doesn’t distill wartime down to stereotypical delivery of bombastic Hoo-Rah! heroics, even if it can be pretty bleak at times.

The Little Ones trailer then, which has been released by Deep Silver and 11-bit Studios today, is something entirely different.

This War of Mine: The Little Ones trailer definitely shows kids for what they are: Creative. Charming. Robust. And indefatigable in their ability to still be kids, regardless of the situation going on around them.

Even though it does end on a stark reminder of the grimness that This War of Mine brings to the table, The Little Ones trailer put a massive smile on my face right up until that final panning shot of the ruined city. Hearing The Offspring’s ‘The Kids Aren’t Alright’ in that context gave me shivers, too.

This War of Mine: The Little Ones is expected to be available for PS4 and Xbox One early next year, with a current release date penciled in for January 29, 2016.
