Ace Combat 7 releases on consoles today. If you’re holding out for the PC version – which doesn’t launch for another fortnight – this is how good a system you’ll need to play it.
Ace Combat 7 has released to some rather positive reviews.
Eurogamer’s John Linneman calls it “heart-pumpingly exciting” while Kotaku’s Mike Fahey, says it’s a “triumphant return for the series” and also refers to it as a “proper Ace Combat game”. So that’s good, then. It’s also currently “strong” on OpenCritic, with an average score – at the time of writing – of 81 out of 100.
That’s the console version, though. Ace Combat 7 is out on PS4 and Xbox One today, but if you’re waiting for the PC version, you’ll need to wait until February 1st. (Note: The Steam product page for Ace Combat 7 currently shows January 31st, but the press folk at Bandai Namco say it’s a day later; perhaps it’s to do with Steam’s Pacific timezone.)
If you are waiting on the runway for the PC release, here are two things to tide you over. First, the launch trailer:
And secondly, here are the system requirements (in case you need to get an engineer in to tinker with your machine prior to take-off).

- DirectX: Version 11
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 50 GB available space
- Sound Card: DirectX 11 sound card

Recommended Ace Combat 7 system requirements
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 (64-bit OS required)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-7500
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (3GB)
- DirectX: Version 11

Bandai Namco hasn’t included any AMD hardware in their system requirements, so you might need to look at some equivalencies if you’re batting for the red team. The GTX 1060 3GB on the recommended specs, for example, is probably closest to a Radeon RX 580 4GB on the current market.
