Dark Light

It’s wall-to-wall indie games on the Xbox release list this week.

There are some corking titles on the Xbox release roster this week. And when I say “titles” I’m referring to some of the names, which are a bit of a mouthful.

That doesn’t mean they’re not also good, interesting games – the two things aren’t mutually exclusive – but try saying QUByte Classics – Jim Power: The Lost Dimension Collection by Piko, or EleMetals: Death Metal Death Match ten times fast after some Jubilee Prosecco and see where it gets you.

Kidding aside, there are some cool-looking indie games on the way.

Souldiers, the sort of Metroidvania, sort of RPG from Retro Forge was delayed for a couple of weeks at the last minute. We were looking forward to it when it was due in mid May, and we’re looking forward to it just as much at the start of June.

You’ll find a very different pace in Janitor Bleeds, a haunted arcade game that blends the faux-PS1 aesthetics (so popular with indie horror games at the moment) with a proper 80s arcade vibe and a touch of System Shock. Releasing the same week as Stranger Things Volume 4 might be a coincidence, but it’s still excellent timing.

If you like tabletop RPGs and roguelites, then you’re liable to enjoy Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy, while fans of rock hard platformers should look to TEN, which wears its influences very proudly on its 1-bit sleeve.

We’ll update this list as the week goes on if anything changes.
