Inin Games and Artdink are remaking Mega Drive classic Monster World IV as Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World.

Originally released for the Mega Drive in 1994, Monster World IV was the final game in the original Wonder Boy series to be developed by Westone and published by Sega. It has been reissued a few times since, making appearances on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console, Xbox Live Arcade, and PSN.

The new remake was revealed as part of Gamescom’s Awesome Indies show and will come to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in early 2021.

Development is being led by Ryuichi Nishizawa, creator of the Wonder Boy series, and also features contributions from a number of Westone luminaries. Shinichi Sakamoto is working on the game’s sound, and the revamped character designs are by Maki Ōzora.

The Wonder Boy/Monster World series has proved to be fertile ground in recent years. Lizardcube’s Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remains one of our favourite games of the generation, and CFK’s Wonder Boy Returns Remix is a decent Switch update of the franchise’s first game. Nishizawa also revitalised the series with a brand new title in 2018, the excellent Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.

Here’s the Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World reveal trailer.
