Players can try out Battlefield 2042 this September ahead of an October launch.

Battlefield 2042 is shaping up to be the hottest shooter of 2021 – and for good reason. With a ridiculous scale, top-of-the-line graphics, and the return of Battlefield‘s signature carnage, I personally can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Well, it turns out I, and many other players won’t have to wait that long: the Battlefield 2042 beta will kick off in September.

Battlefield 2042 has been impressing since its initial reveal back in June. With 128-players matches, massive maps, and giant tornados (yup!), I’d wager it launched its way up to the top of many most-anticipated lists – with the swagger of a perfectly executed Rendezook.

Sadly, EA didn’t reveal an exact date on its beta. However, while they were previously aiming for “ahead of launch”, the new September window is far more concrete. Players who pre-order the game will get early access to the beta, before it eventually becomes open to all players.

With cross-play and cross-progression, there will be a lot of kinks to iron out before the full launch in October. And with previous Battlefield games struggling with ropey launches, EA will be keen to make this the smoothest Battlefield launch yet.

EA also announced Battlefield Portal last night at EA Play Live, a fully customisable online mode for Battlefield 2042. You can check out everything else shown off at EA Play Live here.

Battlefield 2042 will launch on October 22, 2021 across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Both a closed and open beta will launch this September.
