Masahiro Sakurai reveals Fire Emblem’s Byleth as the latest DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In a new live stream broadcast today, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai – complete with an audience laughter track – revealed the final character to be included as part of the game’s five-character Fighters Pass. It’s Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Byleth follows in the footsteps of Joker, Banjo & Kazooie, Dragon Quest’s Hero and Terry Bogarde from King of Fighters. Byleth – who is playable as male or female – will be released on January 28, 2020.

As well as Byleth, the challenger pack also includes a stage based on locations within the game’s Garreg Mach Monastery. It also adds 11 new songs, a new spirit board, and a new classic mode mission.

Although many players might groan at the thought of another Fire Emblem character joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s packed roster, there’s no escaping the impact of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, or the popularity of Byleth.

New Mii Fighter Costumes based on Cuphead, MegaMan, Assassin’s Creed and Rabbid will also be released on January 28, 2020.

Challenger Pack 5 is available as part of the game’s Fighters Pass or as a separate DLC purchase. A second Fighters Pass volume of six fighters is also planned for release before the end of 2021.
