Asobo Studio revives Conker for new Microsoft HoloLens game. You’ll probably wish they hadn’t.
Indie developer Asobo Studio and Microsoft have partnered to bring two games to the HoloLens Development Edition. And they are, erm, interesting.
One title sees the return of Conker, star of the wonderful N64 classic Conker’s Bad Fur Day and its Xbox remake, Conker: Live and Reloaded.
In Young Conker everyone’s favourite squirrel runs around your living room – or any room – and jumps about a bit. If Conker encounters an edge, he’ll wobble, regain his balance, walk, and jump about some more.
Seeing is believing, right? Well here you go…

If this is Microsoft’s attempt to derail VR I think it is safe to say there’s still a way to go.
In Asobo’s other game, Fragments, you are tasked with solving a high-tech crime by sitting on a couch and speaking to a stiffly animated woman.

To give Fragments some credit it has some interesting ideas at play, even if the execution leaves a lot to be desired.
