DayZ, the open-world zombie survival game, is headed for the PS4 but it is a way off yet.

Developer Bohemia has confirmed, in a statement released to Gamespot:

“In short, yes, we’re still going to release DayZ for PS4. It’s mostly that we have the ability to do the Game Preview program with Xbox that has us choosing this platform for the first console release, and the partnership with Microsoft has been very productive so far. We’re still excited to have DayZ in the hands of PS4 players, it’ll just happen a bit later than the Xbox release.”

In a recent blog post, the developer outlined the plan for the rest of the year and next year, and initially it didn’t mention PS4 at all, saying:

“As soon as the PC BETA is headed in a way we like, we’re still committed to bringing DayZ to Xbox, where we have a large community of gamers patiently (very patiently!) waiting for a truly hardcore online survival game.”

On Twitter, Bohemia confirmed that the game will be on its way, but that it may not arrive next year:

“Xbox has a Preview program, that is the reason why DayZ will be on Xbox earlier. We can’t promise you the PS4 version in 2018. But we will do our best.”
