Deathloop, the delayed looper shooter from Arkane Studios, has a new PlayStation 5 and PC release date.
Deathloop was looking like one of this year’s highlights before disruption to its development caused by the coronavirus led Arkane Studios to push its release date into 2021.
Well, some good news. A brand new trailer for the game confirms that Deathloop will now hit PC and PlayStation 5 on May 21, 2021.
Despite Arkane Studios being a subsidiary of Zenimax Media – which is being acquired by Microsoft for an incredible $7.5 billion – the game remains a PlayStation 5 console exclusive and is unlikely to be released for the Xbox Series X|S.
So why is Deathloop so cool? Players take on the role of Colt, an assassin who must uncover and kill eight characters responsible for a recurring time loop. Based on our own experiences with time loops, the task would be difficult enough in normal circumstances. The game’s great conceit is that another online player – assuming the role of rival assassin Julianna – will attempt to stop you. What we’ve seen so far looks like a super stylish timey wimey game of cat and mouse, and it’s easily one of our hottest prospects for 2021.
