Tiny Rebel Games has confirmed that mobile game, Doctor Who: Legacy, will close later this month.

Doctor Who: Legacy launched in late 2013 on iOS and Android, just as the long-running television series was celebrating its 50th anniversary. Ostensibly a match-3 puzzle game peppered with role-playing story elements, it has been in operation ever since, continually adding new content and characters.

Developers Tiny Rebel Games say the game is closing as the studio has decided not to renew their licensing agreement with the BBC. In a statement on its official Facebook page, the Tiny Rebel’s Susan and Lee Cummins posted the following message:

“It is with a heavy heart we report that we are shutting down Doctor Who: Legacy effective two weeks from now. Our agreement has ended with the BBC and we have chosen not to attempt another renewal. We’re incredibly proud of what we accomplished with our very first mobile game at Tiny Rebel, which this was. We set out with some wild ambitions about free to play and creating a fan-driven experience that put the player’s experience first and never compelled you to spend money unwillingly.”

The studio says it will continue to work on the more story-focused mobile and PC game, Doctor Who Infinity, and that “a new, ambitious non-Doctor Who project” is also in the works.

Doctor Who Legacy will be removed from stores in two weeks, but players who have downloaded the game can continue to play offline. Just don’t… delete!

As a parting gift, Tiny Rebel have distributed the following code that will unlock a batch time crystals to use in the game: 2249-7448-8689-4748.
