Download Salazzle to Pokémon Sun & Moon for free from August 18th, 2017. (Yes, there’s a catch.)

The third expansion in the Pokémon Trading Card Game series – Sun & Moon Burning Shadows – is now available in stores, and to mark the first appearance of Salazzle-GX in the game, players can soon download a battle-ready version of the aloof looking lizard to Pokémon Sun & Moon.

The catch? Well, I’m afraid it requires another trip to you local branch of Game or GameStop. From August 18, 2017 you can pick up a promo card in store with a single-use code that can be redeemed online via the Nintendo 3DS.

Salazzle is pretty tricky to get in Sun and Moon, only available by evolving the uncommon female Salandit. The downloadable Salazzle is level 50, and comes with the Corrosion Ability, a Focus Sash item, and the Fake Out, Toxic, Sludge Bomb, and Flamethrower moves.

How to download Salazzle to Pokémon Sun & Moon

  1. Charge up your 3DS, turn it on and make sure you can connect to the internet.
  2. Boot up your copy of Sun or Moon and select the option for ‘Mystery Gift’ on the main menu.
  3. Select ‘Receive Gift’.
  4. Then select ‘Get via Code/Password’.
  5. Select ‘Yes’ when asked if you want to connect to the internet.
  6. Enter your code.
  7. Slow cook a risotto while the 3DS does its thing.
  8. Once received, the level 50 Salazzle can be retrieved from the delivery man loitering in any Pokémon Center. You’ll also receive a Wonder Card that can be found in the ‘Mystery Gift’ menu.
  9. And remember to save your game!
