Bethesda has released new details and a launch trailer for Wastelanders, the big new update for post-apocalyptic MMORPG Fallout 76.

Wastelanders is a big refresh for Fallout 76, adding a new main quest, human NPCs (whoop!), and a bevvy of other game-improving changes aimed at new and long-time players. All eyes are on the tough new monsters, the new gold bullion currency, and a new reputation system which could nudge the game experience into Fallout New Vegas territory.

In the press blurb, Bethesda says that “players will forge alliances with new factions in an effort to uncover the secrets of West Virginia, either in groups with friends or solo as a lone wanderer.”

One consequence of the update is that some camp locations used by players are now required by the game. As a result, affected players get a free camp move. Bethesda has issued a handy map to help identify available plots.

Wastelanders is released tomorrow for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. On the same day, the full game also debuts on Steam. It’s free for players who already own it on PC. You just need to link your Steam and Bethesda.net accounts.

We have a favour to ask

Thumbsticks has a couple of main aims. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
