NPD Group’s games sales analysis says Grand Theft Auto V is now the best-selling game of all time.
Four years after its initial release, RockStar’s Grand Theft Auto V has taken the crown of The Best Selling Game Ever, in the US. That’s according to the NPD Group’s video game sales analysis for August 2017.
GTA V was the second highest selling game last month, just behind this year’s instalment of EA’s long-running NFL franchise, Madden NFL 18.
USgamer quotes the NPD’s Mat Piscatella, saying:
“Grand Theft Auto V has now been on the market 49 months and has achieved 41 Top 10 chart appearances, 16 more times than any other single title in reported history. In addition, Grand Theft Auto V is the all-time best-selling game by both revenue and units in tracked sales across PC, console, and portable with digital and packaged combined.”
The current top five selling games of all time across all platforms are Tetris, Minecraft, Wii Sports, Grand Theft Auto V, and Super Mario Bros. The game’s continued residency in the upper reaches of charts around the world – and the ongoing success of GTA Online – mean that there’s a good chance it will climb even higher.
