Dark Light

Gamious and Whitethorn Games have confirmed that Lake will be released for Xbox Series X|S and Steam next month.

Publisher Whitethorn Games has announced that Lake will debut on PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 1, 2021.

Set in 1986, players assume the role of Meredith Weiss, a forty-something who takes a break from city life to return to her hometown of Providence Oaks.

As Meredith fills in for her mail carrier dad – deliveries can be performed manually or on auto-pilot – she meets a range of characters, each with quirks and unique personalities. Meredith can choose to interact with them, hang out with friends, spark a romance, speak to the neighbours, or just retreat home with a good book.

What follows is a story that can play out in multiple ways, with no right or wrong answers and no “true” ending. And when the trip ends, Meredith must decide whether to return to the city or remain in her hometown.

Lake was one of our highlights from the recent ID@Xbox Summer Game Fest. Developer Gamious describes the interactive story – which takes place over two in-game weeks – as a “slice of life.” The deliberately slow-paced approach to story-telling won’t be to everyone’s taste, but if you yearn to escape the hustle of everyday life, Lake might be just the ticket.

Lake is also planned for release on Mac, Playstation, Nintendo Switch, and Linux at a later date.
