Hitman Sniper: The Shadows is a new action RPG with a deadly catch from Square Enix.

And that catch is that Hitman Sniper: The Shadows is a mobile game. Set in the Hitman universe – but seemingly developed without any input from IO Interactive – the game sends players on a global adventure to assassinate targets and build their reputations. The available locations and vantage points will change depending on the time of day, which is a neat touch.

The story follows the disappearance of Agent 47 and the exploits of a group of assassins called The Shadows. These new Hitpeople are a mysterious collective but can be identified – as seen above – by their penchant for bad hair, hats, and bubble gum. Each character has their own backstory, abilities, and play style.

Speaking about the game, producer Simon Doongoor says:

“From the onset, our ambition was to deliver a high production value Hitman Sniper experience on mobile in terms of quality graphics, and gameplay. We wanted this game to be the start of something new rather than a sequel. This vision freed us to move in a different direction, such as introducing The Shadows, and allowed us to create a deeper game experience for players.”

Hitman Sniper: The Shadows includes various modes, including a single-player campaign and PvP multiplayer. Despite our reservations around the character design – and the usual caveats surrounding mobile games of this nature – it actually looks quite promising.

Players are also invited to join the game’s official Discord, where they can engage in dialogue and give feedback to the development team.

“We have been working closely with the community since the start of the project,” says Simon Doongoor. “Their feedback has been instrumental in the making of Hitman Sniper: The Shadows and we can’t wait to see where they will take It next.”
