Lost Judgment and Death Stranding Director’s Cut headline this week’s lineup of new PlayStation Store releases for the PS4 and PS5.
Hideo Kojima isn’t too fond of the term Director’s Cut. Speaking about the PS5 release of Death Stranding, he says:
“A director’s cut in a movie is an additional edit to a shortened version that was either released reluctantly because the director did not have the right to edit it, or because the running time had to be shortened. In the game, it is not what was cut, but what was additionally produced that was included. Delector’s Plus? So, in my opinion, I don’t like to call ‘director’s cut’.”
So there we have it. Nonetheless, Death Stranding Director’s Cut will be delivered to PS5 this week with a host of enhancements, including new missions, areas to explore, story beats, weapons, game modes, vehicles, online features, DualSense support, two display modes, and 3D Audio. Yup, there’s not much being cut here.
The week’s other big PlayStation release is Lost Judgment, the second instalment of Sega’s Yakuza series spin-off. This time, detective Yagami’s investigations lead to the city of Isezaki Ijincho, previously seen in Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
Other new PS Store games include the PS5 edition of Port Royale 4 and the fun multiplayer firefighting game, Embr.
