Note for the diary, the next Nintendo Direct will be broadcast on Wednesday April 12, 2017.

According to Nintendo, the broadcast will focus on two upcoming Switch titles, ARMS and Splatoon 2. We can also expect to see a brief update on the console’s roster of indie games – or Nindies, as they insist on calling them – plus news on some upcoming 3DS titles.

Interest in ARMS has grown significantly since the game’s unveiling in January. What first looked like a hokey re-skin of Wii Sports Boxing has since become one of the system’s most anticipated games. Early feedback suggests it’s a game of surprising depth and nuance that makes excellent use of the Switch’s Joy Con controllers. Some commentators have even suggested that it could be the latest title in Nintendo’s esports play. We’re not sure that we’d go that far, but we love the game’s visual design, and hope to see more characters and modes announced this week.

We also hope to see much more of Splatoon 2; mainly to address concerns that the game is little more than a remake of the Wii U original. The recent Splatoon 2 Global Testfire was a lot of fun, and there were many subtle changes, but the overall experience was very familiar.

You can watch the stream live on YouTube or the Nintendo Direct website at 11PM BST on Wednesday April 12, 2017.
