New Nintendo Switch eShop releases

Dragon Quest XI, Ori and the Blind Forest, and FIFA 20 headline a jam-packed week of new video game releases for the Nintendo Switch.

There’s another stupidly busy week ahead on the Nintendo Switch with the release of no less than four Dragon Quest games, some classic D&D RPGs, a beloved Star Wars favourite, and a one-time Xbox exclusive.

Depending on how much time you have on your hands, its either a good or bad week for RPG fans. The Switch release of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is something to be welcomed, but do we really need Dragon Quest I, II, and III on the same day? Also released on Friday are Switch ports of the D&D classics, Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape Torment.

Update: September 26th – Publisher Skybound Games has confirmed that all three D&D RPGs have now been delayed until October. It’s probably for the best.

Fans of exploratory platformers should certainly check out Moon Studios’ Ori and the Blind Forest, which was previously an Xbox exclusive. And a week on from getting its first Star Wars game, the Switch quickly gets its second in the shape of 2002 fan favourite, Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

Other new releases include the Legacy Edition of FIFA 20, Dead by Daylight, Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition, and the rough-looking, Contra: Rogue Corps. And if that wasn’t enough, Nintendo’s latest mobile game, Mario Kart Tour, arrives on Wednesday.

Here’s the full lineup of new releases. We’ll add any new additions as soon as we get confirmation.

We hate to ask, but...

Thumbsticks has a couple of goals. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough to meet those goals! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
