Cyberpunk 2077 is free to play on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for a limited time and for a limited time.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners can now download a free trial of CD Projekt Red’s high anticipated (and subsequently shunned) role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077.
The trial grants players access to five hours of playtime – with no gameplay limits – and is available until March 15, 2022.
The promotions coincides with the release of Cyberpunk 2077 Patch 1.5, which overhauls significant aspects of the troubled game. The update includes a range of next-gen console enhancements, technical updates, bug fixes, and content additions.
PS5 and Xbox Series X players receive upgraded visuals, plus various graphics, performance, and ray-tracing modes. Support is also added for the PlayStation 5 Dual Sense controller. Technical updates include improved combat AI, crowd behaviour and driving models, plus numerous gameplay tweaks.
On the content side, Cyberpunk 2077 now includes new apartments, enhanced character customisation features and a host of new items that can be purchased from Wilson’s 2nd Amendment store or discovered in Night City.
CD Projekt is likely hoping that the trial will tempt players who skipped the game following its disastrous console release in November 2020. And if you like what you play, all progress will transfer to purchased copies. Conveniently, the game is currently discounted on the PlayStation and Xbox digital games stores.
Xbox One and PlayStation 4 users receive the content and gameplay updates but few visual and performance upgrades.
Although we’re pleased to see Cyberpunk 2077 in better shape, we shouldn’t forget the circumstances surrounding its launch and the reports documenting the studio’s troubling work culture. We can only hope that this update was developed in better conditions and that CD Projekt Red is improving its business practices as well as its games.
