Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl has already sold over 6 million copies

Dark Light

The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have sold more than six million units worldwide.

The combined first-week sales – as reported by Famitsu – put the release in the same ballpark as 2019’s Pokémon Sword and Shield.

The numbers are particularly impressive given that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of two Generation 4 Nintendo DS games from 2006.

Despite the age of the source material, both adventures still shine. In our review, we said: “Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl straddle the line between old and new by giving two beloved heirlooms a polish that avoids tarnishing treasured memories.”

It will be interesting to see how Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl fare long term. On January 28, 2022, fans can return to the game’s Sinnoh region in the Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which moves the franchise into a semi-open world format with new gameplay mechanics.
