We love PUBG, we really do. But honestly? It feels like we’re writing the same bloody news story over and over again.
Another day, another honking great sales or concurrent player milestone for Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene’s massive smash hit battle royale shooter.
Tell you what. Can we take all that exposition people normally bung into the start of a news article as read? We’ve done this news story before, you’ve read it before, so we’ll assume everyone knows. PUBG, short for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds; global phenomenon; biggest game on the planet; unstoppable, record-breaking figures; actually a really good game; not even out of Early Access yet.
OK, the news: over the weekend, Brendan has shared via Twitter that PUBG has surpassed 20 million sales:
.@PUBATTLEGROUNDS reached an amazing milestone this weekend, passing 20 million copies sold!
I know a lot of you are frustrated by issues w/ the game but the team is working hard to deliver a truly great Battle Royale expierence for everyone. Bear with us, change is coming!
— PLAYERUNKNOWN (@PLAYERUNKNOWN) November 7, 2017
There we are. That’s the news.
Same time next week for the next big PUBG milestone? Cool, we’ll see you there.

We have a favour to ask
Thumbsticks has a couple of main aims. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
